prayer and intercession
At GFCC, we believe in a loving God who not only hears our prayers but when they are in accordance with His will, answers them. We believe prayer is invaluable communication with our Lord and therefore, a way of pursuing relationship with Him. Before battles can be fought our relationship to Him is essential…since He is the very breathe we breath.
During the last 23 years, prayer has been the stabilizing factor in our quest to serve and fulfill all that God has in His heart. We are now endeavoring to unify our hearts and minds so that not only will we receive God’s blessings, but that we will also see His Kingdom advance and an abundance of souls saved. In the world we live in and the availability of information, we can have a multitude of voices speaking to us and in this ministry of prayer, heart issues are so important. Without unity of heart and mind and direct purpose of corporate prayer – our requests can go unanswered. Christ speaks of the church as being His bride and relates the relationship to that of a husband and wife’s union and the importance of right relationship so our prayers are not hindered.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 1 Peter 3:7
Three points to the heart attitude of the prayer ministry:
§ to know Him
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Philippians 3:10
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to enquire in his temple.
- Psalm 27:4
…to behold the beauty of the Lord, to know His character that is so full of quality. Our quest to know Him will be a life long process. We are in a continual state of desire towards Him and this has been placed by God, because He longs for our fellowship.
˜˜
§ to love Him
…with a grateful heart for the love and mercy He extended to us through His son, Jesus who chose death on the cross so our sins would be forgiven.
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so very much, that even while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's special favor that you have been saved!). Ephesians 2:4-5
˜˜
§ to serve Him
…with our whole heart.
Our service to the Lord has many different facets, with our ministry in prayer; our heart is to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ that they fulfill the call of God. We have an amazing pact and that is we are called to “partner with God”. Our service to Him reflects His compassion to the world, that none should perish.
Matthew 20:27-28
and whoever wants to be first must become your slave. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many."
Philip. 2:7 NKJ
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
HOW WE FUNCTION
For the purposes listed above and that we may work toward seeing them fulfilled in an intentional way, the following prayer ministries have been established.
Mission Intercessors
A committed group who pray for the needs of our missionaries in Kosova:
Dave, Cindy Johnson, Dan, Amber, and Judah Litzinger.
Contact Ron Lashley
Prayer Chain
This is a group of “on-call” warriors that can be activated to pray for the immediate needs of the church family and their friends.
Contact Dana Heafner
Personal Intercessors
These are individuals who have committed to pray for the church leadership. This is essential to the leadership, who have constant demands and challenges in the ministry.
Prayer Teams
These teams gather in the prayer room before each church meeting to pray for the various aspects of the service and specifically for the person preparing to speak. At the conclusion, they pray for the various needs of the congregation and again for the minister who preached.
Getting Involved
If you have a burden for prayer and a willingness to serve others, we can use you in the Prayer and Intercession Ministry. Contact Cindy Johnson to find out how you can get involved today.
. . . serve him with all your heart and all your soul."
